Jumbo Chenille Yarn: How Much Do You Need for a Giant Amigurumi?

Jumbo Chenille Yarn: How Much Do You Need for a Giant Amigurumi?

The first question everyone asks before starting a life-size amigurumi: how much yarn? The honest answer is "more than you think" — giant plushies are measured in kilograms, not grams. Here are the real totals from our patterns, all worked in jumbo (#7) chenille with a 12 mm (US P/Q) hook.

Always buy +10%

All the totals above already include a 10% margin. Keep it: dye lots differ between batches, and running out on the last arm with a slightly different shade shows on a big flat surface. Buy every ball of one colour in a single order.

Balls, not grams

Jumbo chenille is usually sold in balls of around 300 g. Divide the weight by 300 and round up: 4.1 kg means 14 balls. Our patterns give the weight per colour, so you can order the exact number of balls for each shade.
